I have always wondered where all the information in health charts can go and be stored. I know from personal health records that my information all collects in one portal for all of my healthcare providers and myself to see. I think that something like the EHR is very helpful for healthcare so that previous visits or tests can be tracked. With certain patients in the hospital, they tend to forget tests that have been done or procedures they’ve been through. I think that this tool is very helpful and will continue to be used in healthcare for years to come. The information provided by looking at the HIE is so beneficial for care planning and client background. The more that healthcare advances, the more of a need there is for tracking patients health. The things that technology have allowed us to accomplish is truly amazing. The security used on site like these is safe and can allow for this transfer of information.

As a nurse being able to look at a patient chart before working with them has been very useful in the clinical setting. Once I am working after school, I think that having access to the EHR will allow me to provide the best care to my patients because I will have a better understanding of their previous health visits, etc. I do understand why some patients may not want all their information shared in one portal, but I also feel that in order for the best care to be provided, the provider needs to know all the details related to the client. I think that using the information provided in this presentation will come in handy for me one day in practice. I think that accessing the HIE will allow me to educate myself on the patient and their needs. I truly feel that as technology and healthcare advance together the use of these platforms will grow. With this growth, will come better patient outcomes and care provided. I am excited to be able to use EHR in my future career because I feel that it will benefit both the patient I am caring for and myself in providing the best care possible.
