Lamott Reading:

I felt that I was prepared from classroom activities to start my first draft, and felt confident that many of the parts of my writing in my first draft would be able to be used in my final draft. I do sometimes feel with other writing assignments the way that Lamott felt. Starting a first draft can be difficult. I noticed that while reading Lamott’s descriptions of first drafts, she described things more “violently” than I would or than I feel when writing first drafts. I did agree with Lamott when she described first drafts as just getting your words on paper, and then in second and third drafts you make the writing make sense. I agreed with Lamott for the most part but didn’t really agree with how she described different stages of writing the first draft.

Revision Process Strategies:

After looking over the comments that my peers left on my writing I feel more confident in my writing. My peers left me helpful comments that I believe will better my essay. My goal for my revision plan is to go through the comments that were left on my writing and work hard to correct them all, or at least understand what my peers were trying to say/help me with. Part of my goal is to better my writing and feel happy with the final outcomes. In order to achieve these goals, I will have to look back over my drafts, make edits in my writing and continue to reread my work. I also will ask others to edit my essay, so that I can get more advice. I think that my biggest challenge will be to make all of the edits and make my essay flow in the right way. My first draft definitely has many changes that need to be made. Many times I find myself struggling to make all the edits and make them in the “correct” way. When my peers leave notes on my work, I don’t always understand what they mean in their comment so it can be hard to change my writing in the right way. Of course we all interpret things differently, and I think that this shows in my edits. My peers understand things differently than I do and point things out that I don’t see a problem with. It can be hard to find a “meet in the middle” place while going through edits. The editing process has always had both positive and negative effects on me and my writing. I appreciate it because I get advice and get to edit my work in ways that I want. It can be hard to change things that my peers left notes on but that I don’t want to change. I hope to change my essay in positive ways and create a piece of writing that satisfies not only the prompt, but myself.
