Learning Outcome 1

When this semester started, I didn’t know much about global and local edits. I always used to revise and look for local edits. I would always reread through my essays to make sure that it made sense sand flowed while, but never really used global edits to my advantage. Although I knew what both local and global edits were, I feel as though throughout this semester I have become much stronger at revising using both global and local edits. Early in the semester I peer-reviewed my classmates essays and wrote about local and global edits in blog 5. In this blog, I talk about the strategies that I use to both locally and globally edit essays. I used local edits so often that when I peer-reviewed for the first time in English 110 it was hard for me to only use global edits. In English 110 we spent a lot of time talking about editing and editing peers papers. I feel that I have learned a lot in this course about how to better my editing so that I can help others write stronger. I feel that you can do so much more with local and global edits than one thinks. At first, I thought that local and global edits could only really be used when reading a whole essay, but I found that you can use both local and global edits in specific parts of an essay. In class we are always talking about making stronger theses and claims. We use local and global edits to strengthen these sentences in our essay.

Another part of this learning outcome is to use a recursive writing process. We spent lots of time both in class and out of class working on editing drafts. I have learned so much about the recursive writing process throughout this semester. In our final paper, I feel that I used the recursive writing process. I had a formal draft that my peers and I went through and edited. In my final draft you can see the changes that I made. Through using the recursive writing process I have been able to make large global edits on my formal drafts and pay more attention to local edits on my final draft. All parts of editing come together in the recursive writing process.
