I believe that my annotations are getting better. I still think that I need to work a little harder on going deeper into the reading and making more meaningful comments.

This article was published on the World-Post in January of 2014. This article is by Yo-Yo Ma, a cellist and songwriter. He graduated from Juilliard School and Harvard. He has won many Grammy Awards and has also received many other rewards.

This article was very interesting to read. The purpose of me reading this article was to learn more about critical and empathetic thinking, and also the arts. It is important to learn about the role that art can play in a society. Art needs to be integrated into learning, so that children can learn that art is a way in which we connect. Yo-Yo Ma was trying to show how much we use art in society, yet we don’t always see it being used, and sometimes forget how important art is.

I think that art is the rhetorical situation. Art and its importance is the main point that Yo-Yo Ma is trying to make. The scope in this article is the importance of incorporating the arts into our education and realizing the impact art has on us. Art helps us connect in so many ways. Art also helps us achieve greater things, such as empathy. The “so what” might be what we will do, and how far we will go to incorporate art into our culture and society.

  1. Roxy,
From your annotations, it looks like you have engaged in a thoughtful, at times critical conversation with Ma’s essay. Well done! Keep up the good work.
