Module 3&4 Reflection

In the last two modules, I learned new skills that will help me in my future of nursing. The modules were about clinical judgement and priority setting. In the Knowledge and Clinical Judgement module, I learned about all the different ways to think and learn in nursing. Some tasks will require a higher level of thinking and some other tasks will require the use of basic knowledge. This module touched upon different learning styles, and allowed me to think about how I best learn. This is helpful so that in the future I can use a learning style that will help me retain information in the best way possible. The other part that this module touched on was critical thinking and clinical judgement. Often in nursing we will be tasked to think more in depth and find ways to help a patient. We will have to consider all aspects and use our critical thinking and clinical judgement to create a plan.

The other module I worked on was about Priority Setting Framework. This module touched on Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, the ABC’s, safety and other interesting topics. In nursing, I must learn how to prioritize what I do and this module helped me to understand all of the different aspects that are involved when making a decision based on priorities. A patients basic needs must be met, but also I must look at how they are doing physically and take safety into consideration. I will use the nursing process to help with prioritization. I will use my judgment and create a plan of action. To me, priority setting is very important to understand when providing care for a patient or trying to understand why something may be happening. Using the seven priority setting frameworks, I will be able to arrive at different conclusions and take actions to help a client.
