I chose to read chapter 3 in They Say/I Say. This chapter was about quotes. I chose to read this because I sometimes find quotes difficult to place in writing and often have a hard time introducing quotes and having a description of my own words after the quote. I feel okay with the quotes that I incorporate in my writing, but sometimes I feel that I don’t introduce quotes or the author in the right ways. I read about templates for introducing quotes, which will help me in my final paper. I also read about how not to introduce quotes, so I compared the two sections and learned the do’s and don’ts. Framing every quotation is important because in writing the quotes need to be relevant. I do not want to use “hit and run” quotations in my writing. Instead, I want to be fluid when using quotes. I want to explain the quotes I use and introduce the quotes. I am glad that I chose to read this chapter because I learned new things about quotes. I learned how to frame them, introduce quotes and how to explain quotes. All of the information in this chapter was very useful and I will use the new information that I learned to help me revise my final paper. I plan on going back to my paper and looking at all of my quotes and look deeper in the introduction and explanation of the quotes.
Good. It can help to revisit these ideas over and over. Don’t orphan those quotes. Make sure you justify their presence in your text.
